            Why is this metric important?

            Acquiring open space properties from willing sellers helps preserve and protect natural and scenic resources and provides passive recreation opportunities for the residents and visitors of Carson City.

            How is this metric measured?

            The Open Space Division, as part of the Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department, actively manages the natural resources on designated lands within the city limits. The program tracks the amount of acreage under management.

            What progress are we making toward this metric?

            The Open Space Program works with willing sellers and uses various methods to acquire agricultural lands, floodplains and wetlands, hillsides and lands along the Carson River corridor to protect the historic character and scenic viewsheds of Carson City.
